The Dreaded RIF
Making it Effective, Efficient and Humane

 

    

In any recession, and especially in this uncharted one, the specter of reduction in force – RIF – looms larger and larger every day.  Both employers and employees dread the process and the impact.  Employers can do much, however, to make a RIF effective, efficient and humane.  This presentations looks at the three phases of any RIF and suggests how the psychological and economic costs to all parties might best be minimized, looking through legal, operational and economic eyes.

 


Biography

Tony Rosati, KAFF Partners, LLC

Tony Rosati is a Partner  at KAFF Partners.  His thirty-plus years of businesss, HR and labor relations experience in the grocery retail and professional consulting industries includes demonstrated effectiveness in operations and merchandising, labor relations, employee relations, training, federal and state compliance investigations, team-based strategies for financial growth and profitability, and client relations.  Tony's Human Resources experience is characterised by P&L focus that consistently reduces expenses while implementing functional HR practices for operational effectiveness.  He is widely recognized  as a regulatory compliance investigator who produces controlled, cost-effective outcomes with minimum litigation.  His labor relations experience included multi-union operational success from single sites to multi-site / multi-state venues.

Dr. Mark Erenburg, KAFF Partners, LLC

Mark Erenburg is a Partner at KAFF Partners.  He is also a Forensic Economist and Principal at KAFF Analytics.  He earned M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Labor Economics from The University of Wisconsin - Madison and an A.B. degree in Economics from The University of Michigan.  From 1987 to 1997, Mark was the Director of the Labor-Management Relations Center, College of Business Administration, Cleveland State University.  In addition to develolping and delivering all training for KAFF Partners, Mark also teaches Economics online for the University of Phoenix and on the ground for Baldwin-Wallace College.

Kristin Erenburg, Jones Day

Kristin Erenburg's practice focuses on the representation of management in all types of labor and employment matters. She has defended and counseled public and private sector employers of all sizes in cases arising under a variety of state and federal laws, including Title VII, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Family Medical Leave Act, and whistleblower laws. She also has
represented and counseled management in public and private sector labor matters, including contract negotiations, contract administration, labor arbitrations, and administrative proceedings. Kristin is a member of the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association and the Labor and Employment Relations Association of Northeast Ohio.
